Electrician cover letter example
An electrician’s cover letter has to show the size and type of work you have done, that your work passes inspection, and that you work safely and can lead a crew.
Opens with the matching electrician resume, in the same design, so the two read as a set.
The letter, as text
Dear Mr. Kowalczyk-Moore,
Steel Bridge Electrical’s new commercial projects need journeymen who can lead a small crew and pass inspection the first time. I have been doing both on commercial fit-outs for six years, and I am applying for your Journeyman Electrician position.
At Three Rivers Electric I lead crews of two to four on commercial fit-outs up to 60,000 square feet, from rough-in through final inspection. I read and mark up drawings, order materials and keep the job sequenced so the crew is never waiting on parts. Ninety-five percent of my inspections have passed first time, and I have had zero lost-time incidents in six years.
I am comfortable with larger electrical work as well. I have installed and upgraded services up to 2,000 amps, including switchgear and panelboards, and I have mentored three apprentices on the job. My own four-year apprenticeship at Allegheny Electrical Contractors covered 8,000 hours across residential, commercial and industrial projects, including conduit, cable tray, lighting and motor controls.
I hold a City of Pittsburgh journeyman license and OSHA 30 certification. I can start within two weeks and would be happy to walk one of your project managers through a recent fit-out on site.
Sincerely,
Daniel Murphy
Why this electrician cover letter works
- First-time inspection rate and lost-time incidents are the two numbers contractors care about most, and both are here.
- Job sizes (60,000 sq ft, 2,000 A services) let the reader match the candidate to their projects.
- Crew leadership and apprentice mentoring position the candidate for more responsibility.
- The close offers a site walkthrough, a practical, trade-appropriate next step.
Tips for your own electrician cover letter
- Describe the type and size of jobs you work on, such as square footage, service size or system type.
- Give your inspection pass rate and safety record.
- List your license, its jurisdiction and your safety certifications in one clear sentence.
Questions
How long should an electrician cover letter be?
Three or four short paragraphs, about 250 words, never more than one page. Hiring managers skim; every sentence should add proof the resume does not already give.
Do I need a cover letter for an electrician job?
Send one whenever the application allows it, unless the posting says not to. It is your chance to connect your experience to this employer’s needs, and many candidates skip it.
Can I use this cover letter for free?
Yes. Open it in the builder with the matching resume, replace the details with your own, and download both as PDF or Word, free, with no account and no watermark.
